"The Greed Monster" is the eighth episode of the third season and the twenty-sixth overall episode of Yogi's Treasure Hunt, a spin-off of The Yogi Bear Show. It aired on February 19, 1988.
Synopsis[]
Told through rhyme, Yogi and the gang depict how all the toys in the world disappear when mysterious flute music draws them away from their homes to a distant planet.
Plot[]
A boy named Nathan (who refused to share his toys with his little brother Luke or anyone else for that matter) witnesses this, and shortly after, Yogi and his gang set foot in Nathan's backyard. They depart soon after, when Quick Draw McGraw's lucky toy bunny is drawn to the mysterious flute music. Unknown to the others, Nathan sneaks aboard the S.S. Jelly Roger, claiming "Nobody's going to find all the toys in the world without me!" The music leads to the gang to a strange planet, where everything is made of candy. They soon find themselves in front of a candy castle, where inside, they find several doorways, one of which contains the missing toys.
To the sidekicks, Boo-Boo, Blabber, Augie Doggie, and Quick Draw, the doorways are traps to prevent the gang from finding the toys. The others (Yogi, Snagglepuss, Snooper, Doggie Daddy, and Huckleberry Hound) eventually see through this, and are able to overcome their own personal desires. Nathan, however, has found the toys, but has been overcome with greed of having all the toys in the world to himself. The gang is then captured by the Greed Monster, who transforms them into toys with a toy-making machine. Nathan's greed for toys begins to build up, transforming him into the new Greed Monster, reversing the transformation on the original Greed Monster (who turns out to be a little girl who wanted all the candy in the world to herself, which turned her into the previous Greed Monster).
With a little help from Yogi (now a teddy bear, along with Boo-Boo), Nathan realizes that kids can have just as much fun without toys; this upsets Nathan and he wishes to go home. But, the little girl (whom Nathan turned into a doll) states that Nathan will have to find someone even greedier than himself to take his place as the Greed Monster. Eventually, Dick Dastardly and Muttley become the new Greed Monsters after their love for fortune builds up inside them, reversing the transformation on Nathan. The missing toys are returned to children everywhere, and Nathan learns to share with Luke, even asking him to play.
